Hydraulic / Hydrologic Modeling

Computer models provide engineers and scientists with tools to obtain a sound understanding of the interrelationships among the various processes affecting conditions within a watershed. Whether it be flooding, poor water quality, groundwater contamination, the availability of water or excessive channel erosion, Earth Tech is a world leader in the application of models for complex watershed planning and design projects.

Key to the success of any modeling effort is the effective and efficient simulation of various aspects associated with rainfall / runoff / water quality processes, or the pollutant fate / transport processes, within a watershed. The appropriate model must be matched to the problem being solved. Earth Tech integrates cutting-edge technologies, such as GIS, DTM, LIDAR, satellite imagery and parameter optimization techniques at each of the five phases of modeling, data collection, model development, calibration, validation and analysis of predicted results.

Watershed Management

Watersheds are living, dynamic systems that often reject conventional engineered solutions. Earth Tech's approach to watershed project development is to observe, implement, monitor, and modify. This adaptive management approach allows designs to perform more effectively in concert with the natural environment. It has been used successfully in sensitive watersheds and provides a surface water management plan that addresses not only current conditions, but evolving needs. As well, Earth Tech's staff has worked on watershed projects around the world to reduce pollution effects, provide flood damage reduction, restore ecosystems and identify alternative water supplies. Our unique capabilities in such areas as water quality assessment, pollutant source identification and three-dimensional flow modeling give Earth Tech an advantage in planning, designing, implementing and managing watershed projects.

Water Quality

Earth Tech is a leader in the use of bioengineering solutions for waterway and habitat restoration projects. Stream restoration efforts often require re-establishment of original stream patterns and profiles. We have enhanced habitats by evaluating vegetation along streams and rivers to restore natural tree and vegetation canopies, which is essential for maintaining proper water temperature for fish and other aquatic species. Earth Tech has performed field reconnaissance, conducted inventories, prepared conceptual designs and contract documents and provided construction observation for projects in both urban and rural watersheds. Our experience in analyzing and developing ecosystem-sensitive solutions allows us to move efficiently through the permitting process.
