Earth Tech Expands Engineering Staff, Anticipating Strong Demand for Geotechnical Solutions in 2015

Three experienced geotechnical engineers have joined Earth Tech’s Geotechnical Services Division: Ed Garbin, Ph.D., P.E., D.GE; Mark Plaskett, P.E.; and Michael Simpson, P.E. Earth Tech’s scope of work consisted of installing approximately (225) Vibro Replacement Stone Columns to an average depth of 70 ft. below ground surface or to refusal, for ground modification-liquefaction mitigation. Fourteen (14) of the points performed utilized low overhead equipment. Work was performed and completed using 100% Earth Tech resources and equipment.

Earth Tech’s scope consisted of Installation of approximately (4,400) Vibro Replacement 30”-36” diameter stone columns to an average depth of 40ft, 3 drilled shafts 42” diameter to 30 a depth of 30ft., and 46 (16”) Augercast Piles to a depth of 50 ft. Work was performed and completed using 100% Earth Tech resources and electric vibro equipment to improve soils bearing capacity and limit total and differential settlements.

Stabilizing the I-4 Maitland Boulevard Interchange Sinkhole

In December 2008, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began the construction effort required to stabilize a sinkhole located within the Interstate 4 and Maitland Boulevard interchange. Crews are doing the work now to prepare the interchange for the future widening of I-4, which will be accompanied by a reconfigured interchange. To stabilize the sinkhole, workers are injecting cement grout into the ground under high pressure to depths greater than 350 feet. The I-4 Maitland Boulevard Sinkhole stabilization is one of the largest sinkhole grouting projects ever undertaken in the United States.
