EARTH TECH AWARDED $25 MILLION ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENT CONTRACT FOR LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Work Contributes to $12.4 Billion School Construction Project
LONG BEACH, Calif. September 26, 2007 – Earth Tech Inc., a business unit of Tyco International Ltd., and a global provider of consulting, engineering and construction services, has been awarded a $25 million contract for environmental site assessment services by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
This five-year contract consists of one two-year term and three one-year options to continue services. The contract is part of the $12.4 billion dollars the LAUSD will spend over the next five years for new school construction sites located within the greater Los Angeles area.
Earth Tech, serving as prime contractor, will utilize the services of as many as eight local, small business subcontractors to complete the work.
LAUSD’s New School Construction Program is in the sixth year of an anticipated 12-year program. The program objectives are to eliminate involuntary busing, reduce overcrowding, provide neighborhood schools and to return to a traditional, two-semester school calendar. The three phases of the program encompass 200 new schools or school addition projects, which are anticipated to be available for occupancy by 2012.
“We have been conducting environmental site assessments for LAUSD for new school construction since 2001,” said Eric Peterson, Earth Tech Vice President. “We look forward to continuing our relationship and helping the district meet its goals while contributing to an improved educational experience for tomorrow’s students.”
California voters recently approved several bond measures that provide nearly $13 billion dollars for new school construction. This funding enables the district to fulfill the goal of constructing enough classroom capacity to allow all local elementary school students to attend a neighborhood school operating on a two-semester, traditional school calendar.
