earth tech receives 2007 build hawaii award of excellence for wake island aviation fuels system restoration program

LONG BEACH, Calif.  (May 25, 2007) – Earth Tech Inc., a business unit of Tyco International Ltd., and a global provider of consulting, engineering and construction services, has received the 2007 “Build Hawaii” Award of Excellence from the General Contractors Association of Hawaii for work it performed at the Wake Island Air Field on behalf of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence.

Earth Tech was recognized in the Specialty Construction More than $3 Million category for leading a team of contractors working on the Wake Island Aviation Fuels System Restoration Program to design and construct the restoration and upgrade of the aboveground aviation fuel tank farm and hydrant fueling system.  This challenging project demanded meticulous planning, resourcefulness, and innovative construction techniques, while ensuring that island operations were maintained throughout the construction period.

“Our years of design and construction experience on Wake Island prepared us to anticipate and respond to the logistical difficulties and resource constraints of working in a remote location,” said Sandra L. Cuttino, president of Earth Tech’s federal programs.  “The restored and upgraded fuel system withstood the full force of Typhoon Ioki’s direct hit on Wake Island.  We are proud to have delivered a quality design-build product to our long-standing client.”

Wake Island is a remote Pacific atoll 2,800 miles southwest of Hawaii that has served as a strategic military aircraft fuel stop, a U.S. Army missile launch support facility, and an emergency landing strip for the space shuttle.
