U.S. AIR FORCE CIVIL ENGINEER SUPPORT AGENCY SELECTS EARTH TECH FOR DESIGN SERVICES AT ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE

Runway replacement project awarded under contract held by Earth Tech

LONG BEACH, Calif.  December, 21, 2007 – Earth Tech Inc., a business unit of Tyco International Ltd., and a global provider of consulting, engineering and construction services, has been awarded a $3.5M contract by the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency (AFCESA) to evaluate the structural and surface condition of the runways at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and to prepare the design for the complete replacement of the West Runway 01R-19L. The project was awarded under the 4P&E AFCEE contract held by Earth Tech.

The existing runways at Andrews Air Force Base, the home of Air Force One, are several years old and have reached their maximum design life.  One runway must remain fully operational while the other is removed and replaced.

An investigation will be performed on both runways to include an Airfield Condition Survey and an Airfield Pavement Evaluation in accordance with Federal Standards and a report prepared with recommendations for replacement.

Earth Tech will prepare the replacement design for Runway 01R-19L, which is a 200-foot wide by 9,300-foot long runway.  The project scope includes preparing the design and contract documents for the complete replacement with a 150-foot wide by 9,300-foot long runway with new runway overruns, paved shoulders, runway edge lighting, signage, touchdown zone lighting and approach lighting system for a CAT II instrument runway.

Earth Tech is responsible for all field investigations, surveying, geotechnical, pavement evaluation and preparation of designs, construction plans and technical specifications as well as contact documents.  This scope of services must be completed within 354 calendar days following notice to proceed.

“We’ve enjoyed a long and productive relationship with AFCESA over the past 10 years,” said Jane Penny, Senior Vice President for Earth Tech’s U.S. Federal Program. “Earth Tech’s aviation experience with all aspects of airside and groundside design will be an important asset to AFCESA over the next year as we work to support the agency on this project.”
