EARTH TECH AWARDED A $20 MILLION CONTRACT TO DESIGN MAJOR PORTION OF TEXAS STATE HIGHWAY 130
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 6, 2007) – A team led by Earth Tech Inc., a business unit of Tyco International Ltd., and a global provider of consulting, engineering and construction services, has been awarded a five-year, USD $20 million contract by Ferrovial Agroman Zachry (FAZ) to design three segments along the Texas State Highway 130 (SH 130), which extends from southeast Austin to Interstate Highway 10 near Seguin, Texas.
This contract is the first Facility Concession Agreement (FCA) under the umbrella Comprehensive Development Agreement for Trans-Texas Corridor 35 (TTC-35), a 560-mile component of the Trans-Texas Corridor, which was signed in March 2005.
As the lead engineer, Earth Tech will provide design engineering for 27 miles of Segments 5.1, 5.2 and 6.1 along SH 130. Under its scope, Earth Tech will be responsible for the design of approximately $600 million of the estimated total $850 million transportation construction. The design work began last month with the majority of the work expected to be completed by December 2008.
Earth Tech will also serve as prime contractor to several Disadvantaged Business Enterprise subconsultants.
“We are pleased to continue our support of the Trans-Texas Corridor project,” said Kern Jacobson, Senior Vice President of Earth Tech’s Transportation business. “Our capabilities in complex transportation projects, combined with the capabilities of the FAZ and Cintra Zachry teams, will help to improve travel and the ability to transport goods throughout the state.”
Ultimately, FAZ will complete the project construction for Cintra Zachry, LP, (CZ), a private consortium led by the Spanish transportation firm Cintra (Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A.) and Zachry American Infrastructure. CZ will deliver the project and maintain it for the Texas Department of Transportation for a period of 50 years.
State Highway 130 is a toll highway that is being built to improve mobility and relieve congestion on Interstate Highway 35 and other major transportation routes within the Austin-San Antonio corridor.
