WACKER DRIVE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT WINS CECI EMINENT CONCEPTOR AWARD
Earth Tech group recognized for modernization of Chicago's historic riverfront roadway
LONG BEACH, Calif. - March 7, 2003 - Earth Tech, with joint venture partners Teng & Associates, McDonough, Alfred Benesch, Consoer Townsend Envirodyne and TY Lin International, received the Eminent Conceptor award from the Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois (CECI) for the Wacker Drive Viaduct Reconstruction project.
The Engineering Excellence Awards Competition recognizes projects of engineering achievement by Illinois consulting engineering firms. The Eminent Conceptor Award is CECI's highest award. The award recognizes an engineering achievement that demonstrates a high degree of merit and ingenuity, contributes to the advancement of the private practice of engineering, and enhances the economic and social welfare of the general public.
"The work on Wacker Drive is truly remarkable," said Diane C. Creel, president of Earth Tech. "Perhaps no other single roadway structure has done more to shape a city and is more essential to its transportation system than Wacker Drive. We're extremely proud to share this award with our JV Partners."
Earth Tech provided Phase I engineering for the project development report for a major rehabilitation and partial reconstruction of Wacker Drive. The project development report was used to outline the scope of improvements for Phase II design work, including street lighting systems. As a result of its Phase I and Phase II work on this project, Earth Tech was selected to perform as program manager for the reconstruction of all of Wacker Drive.
As program manager, Earth Tech is responsible for supervising four other section designers. Work includes preparation of directive drawings and specifications; monitoring schedules and budgets of the other designers; providing quality control review of submittals; advising and preparing alternate construction contracting strategies; coordination of utility relocations; coordination and review of historic preservation elements; preparation of overall lower level ventilation requirements; control surveys and topographic surveys; and coordination of the overall architectural redevelopment of the project.
Overall project completion for Wacker Drive is scheduled for the spring of 2003.
