EARTH TECH AWARDED SOUTH CAROLINA TRANSPORTATION PROJECT
Final phase of I-520 Bobby Jones Expressway will complete loop around
Augusta/North Augusta-metro area
LONG BEACH, Calif. - April 17, 2003 - Earth Tech has been selected by the South Carolina Department of Transportation to design Phase II of the Interstate 520 Bobby Jones Expressway (recently re-named the Palmetto Parkway) extension in North Augusta, South Carolina. Phase II has an estimated completion cost of more than $100 million.
The Bobby Jones Expressway currently extends 15.5 miles from I-20 in southwest Augusta, Georgia, to Sand Bar Ferry Road in east Augusta. Phase II is the final extension of the Bobby Jones Expressway corridor. It is five miles long and extends from Route 1 to Interstate 20 at Route 25 in North Augusta. Phase I of the extension began in Georgia, across the Savannah River to U.S. 1 in North Augusta.
Services Earth Tech will provide under this contract include environmental documentation and permitting, preliminary and right-of-way roadway design plans, bridge design, hydraulics, and traffic engineering.
"The Bobby Jones Expressway project is a critical link in the continued expansion of this high traffic corridor," said Rob Costello, president of Earth Tech's Global Facilities and Infrastructure division. "When complete, this link will serve as a major South Carolina-Georgia route. Adding more capacity to South Carolina's transportation system is an important part of servicing the increasing population of the state. Earth Tech is extremely pleased to be a part of this important highway transportation improvement."
Earth Tech has recently completed design work on Phase I of the Bobby Jones Expressway. Scope of services included a traffic and toll feasibility study; hydraulic studies of the Savannah River; aerial surveys and mapping; ground surveys; detailed geologic, geotechnical, and structural seismic studies; and roadway and bridge preliminary designs. Phase I is under construction as a design-build project. Earth Tech is providing plan review and assistance during construction.
