CANADIAN NATIONAL BENCHMARKING PROGRAM WINS APWA MANAGEMENT INNOVATION AWARD
LONG BEACH, Calif. - May 21, 2003 - Earth Tech received the Management Innovation award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the Canadian National Benchmarking Program.
The Management Innovation Award program recognizes an individual, team or organization for the development, management, and implementation of a creative idea, devise, process, or system that enhances the goals of public works in serving the public and protecting the environment.
"Earth Tech is proud to be recognized by the APWA for this project," said Rob Andrews, senior vice president of Earth Tech's Canadian operation. "But this award also belongs to the 38 municipal utilities in Canada that participate in the benchmarking initiative."
The goal of the benchmarking program is to identify key trends and relationships between what infrastructure managers can do to influence performance and the resulting effect of those efforts on water output. The information gained through the benchmarking is compiled into a database that contains a statistically significant number of data samples over a multi-year period. This data is used to guide decision-making
Since 1997, Earth Tech has been successfully benchmarking Canadian municipal operations. The Canadian National Benchmarking program originally focused on wastewater collection and treatments systems, and has also been extended to include water treatments plants and transmission/distribution systems. The process has most recently been extended to include storm water management functions.
The Canadian National Water and Wastewater Benchmarking initiative is one of many benchmarking initiatives worldwide aimed at measuring and improving utility performance. Benchmarking essentially involves learning, sharing information and adopting best practices to ultimately improve utility operations.
