NORDIC WATER PRODUCTS EQUIPS THE WORLD'S LARGEST DYNASAND PLANT
DynaSand filters will help conserve water in the arid region of Saudi Arabia.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - September 3, 2003 - Nordic WaterProducts, a Tyco Infrastructures Services Company in Sweden will be equipping the Dammam Sewage Treatment Works in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia with DynaSand® filters. The contract, which comprises 216 filters, will make Dammam the world's largest continuous operated sand filter plant for tertiary treatment.
The kingdom of Saudi Arabia is located in one of the world's arid regions. The plant in Dammam is part of an extensive program to conserve water through reclamation and treatment. The Saudi construction firm, Civil Works Company, is building the plant for the Eastern Province Water Authority. The filter equipment is scheduled to be installed in April 2004 with the plant going on stream in 2005.
Nordic Water Equips Dynasand Plant
DynaSand® is a continuously operating sand filter. Availability is maximized by the elimination of interruptions for backwashing of the filter. The sand is cleaned at all times by means of the internal filter media washing system. Other benefits include:

The DynaSand filter, which provides tertiary treatment duty in sewage works throughout the world, was introduced in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s. Three major DynaSand equipped plants are already operating in the kingdom: Aramco Abqaiq, Aramco Dhahran, and Hofuf.
"DynaSand is a continuously operating sand filter that was invented, developed, designed, and manufactured by Nordic Water," said John Netto, executive vice president of Tyco's Infrastructure Management division. "We are proud to introduce this technology to one of the most arid regions of the world."
Future plans for DynaSand filters in Saudi Arabia include 216 filters each at the Al Khobar and the Al Hassa/Hofuf Sewage Treatment Works Plants as well as 144 filters at the Al Qatif Plant. Along with Dammamm, this will make these plants the world's largest continuous sand filter tertiary treatment works.
