EARTH TECH WINS USD $22.5 MILLION CONTRACT FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT SERVICES AT SIX PLANTS IN MEXICO
LONG BEACH, Calif., July 1 – Earth Tech, a business unit of Tyco Engineered Products & Services, and global provider of consulting, engineering and construction services, has been selected to design and construct four new wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
The contract, which was awarded by the State Public Services Commission of Mexicali, is valued at USD $22.5 million.
Earth Tech will design and construct a new WWTP facility in the City of Mexicali (Las Arenitas) that will treat 19 million gallons per day (980 liters per second). Another facility in the suburban town of Guadalupe Victoria, will process 1.6 mgd (70 lps) and two smaller facilities in Estacion Coahuila and Los Algodones will each treat 0.5 mgd (20 lps).
In addition, Earth Tech will expand two existing WWTPs. Ignacio Zaragoza in Mexicali will be increased from 22.4 mgd (980 lps) to 30 mgd (1300 lps). The capacity in another facility in the suburban community of Ciudad Morelos will be increased from 0.45 mgd (20 lps) to 0.9 mgd (40 lps).
In all, the six wastewater treatment plants will serve more than one million people in the City of Mexicali and the surrounding suburbs, and treat more than 50 million gallons per day once construction is finished in late 2006. Earth Tech will operate all six plants for one year after the construction is complete.
“As the Mexican economy growth continues, the ability to provide effective water services is a challenge to local cities and throughout the country,” said Alan P. Krusi, president of Earth Tech. “Earth Tech's understanding of the Mexican market and our expertise in designing, building and operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout the world will be an important asset as these cities improve water services to their citizens.”
Earth Tech has designed and built more than 70 wastewater treatment plants in Mexico and currently operates six water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout the country.
Earth Tech builds, operates and provides engineering services to more than 200 water and wastewater treatment facilities in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Hungary, China, Australia, Thailand, Venezuela, and Brazil.
