TriRail Airport Station Is The First Building Element of Miami Intermodal Center

LONG BEACH , Calif. (February 21, 2005) – Earth Tech Inc., a business unit of Tyco International Ltd., and a global provider of consulting, architecture, engineering and construction services, has received a 2004 Design Award in the “Unbuilt” category from the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for its design of the TriRail Airport Station at the Miami Intermodal Center.

Earth Tech won the same award in 2003 for its work on the automated people mover station at the intermodal center.

The TriRail Airport Station is the first building element of the Miami Intermodal Center rail node, which will eventually provide consolidated facilities for local commuter rail (South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/TriRail), Amtrak and local rapid transit (Metrorail).

Earth Tech has been working on the Miami Intermodal Center for more than a decade, starting with the initial project development and environmental study in 1993. The company is currently serving as program manager for the public side of the project, which has been designated a "Project of National Significance" by the United States Department of Transportation. The center was also one of the first projects to receive financing under Transportation Infrastructure Funding Innovative Finance Act as part of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21 st Century.

“Large, complex projects such as the Miami Intermodal Center allow Earth Tech to demonstrate the full range of our abilities,” said Alan Krusi, Earth Tech president. “We are proud to have been involved in this significant project since its inception.”

Future phases of the Miami Intermodal Center project will include an Automated People Mover Station linking the transportation hub with Miami International Airport ; a bus terminus facility for local and inter-city buses; a consolidated rental car facility; a parking structure; and an elevated pedestrian link with automated walkways connecting the various program components.
