Earth Tech is performing soil and groundwater cleanup at a petrochemical plant site where historical activities and events have impacted crude oil contamination. The bulk of crude oil, with an estimated volume of 200,000 to 250,000 tons, was released from numerous on-site tanks during air raids at the end of World War II. Cleanup activities include the following works:
- Excavation and transport off site for treatment of soil saturated by oil products (up to 50 % petroleum hydrocarbons)
- Decontamination of waste dump soils and/or construction materials using on-site biodegradation
- Dressing of crude oil waste sludge – fuel mixture production
- Hydrocarbon free-product recovery and contaminated groundwater treatment (dual-phase recovery system)
The project will be completed over several years with ongoing work to 2007.
