PROJECT CASE

Miami Intermodal Center

Miami Intermodal CenterLocation:
Miami, Florida USA

Client:
Florida Department of Transportation

Millions of people live in and visit Miami Florida each year and the Florida Department of Transportation wanted a facility that would link all transportation modes together, transporting travelers to rail, airport and cruise line carriers efficiently and effectively. It was also critical to solve passenger and traffic problems that resulted from the more than 150,000 people who passed through the area each day.

Earth Tech is leading the planning, design and construction of the Miami Intermodal Center, which will serve as a single, integrated, central connecting point for regional travel in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The facility links with the Metrorail, Tri-Rail, Amtrak, Airport/Seaport transportation services, MDT and intercity buses, as well as regional highways and local streets.

Providing the design and construction of one unique structure, while satisfying the specific requirements of all modes of transportation, has presented a number of challenges for the project team. The Earth Tech solution has been to incorporate the existing infrastructure into the design, while adding an airport connection to taxis, cruise ports, parking facilities, rental car outlets and other modes of transportation.

Services provided by Earth Tech include preliminary design and environmental impact statement preparation, transportation and land use planning, roadway and structural design, final design and design management, program management, construction management, public involvement services, business and financial advisory services, architecture, and right of way services.

The Miami Intermodal Center has been designated, by the US Department of Transportation, as a “Project of National Significance”. Upon completion, the MIC will be a 1.2 million square foot transportation hub located adjacent to the Miami International Airport. It will improve the daily lives of approximately 150,000 by providing connections with the airport, Amtrak, Metrorail, Tri-Rail, intercity and intracity bus service and airport / seaport transportation services.

To date, Earth Tech has worked very effectively as Program Manager on the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) and has successfully managed 82 subconsultants including 7 key consultants over the past 7 years during the evolution of this phase of the program.

“...Earth Tech has met all program expectations on a very difficult and complex project involving numerous stakeholders, and has responded quickly and effectively to numerous changes... I have been extremely pleased with Earth Tech's performance and "can do" attitude ...."
