Six years ago the Chicago Department of Aviation launched the Midway Terminal Development Program, with the goal of developing a modern passenger terminal, improving access to the terminal and allowing more efficient use of the existing airfield capacity. Earth Tech was a vital part of a joint venture construction management team established by the city to complete the job.
The challenge was to complete this complex project, which included terminal, groundside and airside elements, over a six-year time span with no interruption in airport services.
Recognizing the importance of maintaining airport services, a unique construction-phasing plan allowed for the project to be completed in stages, with no adverse affect on daily airport operations. The result was a project delivered on time and on budget and after six years of design, engineering and construction, there were no reported interruption of airfield or terminal operations.
Services provided by Earth Tech include management of construction, operations, project controls, quality assurance, estimating, construction inspection and field engineering.
