Earth Tech, as part of the Chicago Water Partners (CWP) joint venture, provides program management services to the City of Chicago Department of Water Management. Earth Tech provides technical staff and management of the engineering services to the partnership. CWP is responsible for the following major engineering efforts:
- Planning, management, and program control of a 5 year $600 million capital improvement program for treatment plants and pumping stations and distribution system water projects.
- Design of water projects including up to 40 miles of water main improvements each year
- Construction management of water main, treatment plant and pumping station improvement projects.
- Review and design of required system improvements to accommodate the over 1,200 requests per year for connections and modifications to the distribution system to accommodate infrastructure improvements and new connections
- Records management and retention with continual updating of the distribution system mapping records to reflect completed changes, and regular distribution of updated maps for safety officials and other city infrastructure departments
- Providing engineering support to the Department, as required
CWP provides the engineering support the Department of Water Management requires to operate one of the largest water utilities in the world. The system serves 5.5 million people in the City of Chicago and 125 suburban communities.
CWP’s management of the Department’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) focuses on the 1460 MGD (peak) Jardine Water Purification Plant (largest rapid sand filtration plant in the world), the 720 MGD (peak) South Water Purification Plant, and 12 pumping stations which have a total installed pumping capacity of 3.6 bgd. As part of this effort, Earth Tech provides overall CIP budget and project planning and the development of system-wide planning documents and facility plans for individual plants, pumping stations, and over 4500 miles of the water distribution system.
