PROJECT CASE

Virginia Reuse Program

Virginia Reuse ProgramLocation:
Virginia Plains, South Australia

Client:
South Australia Water

Earth Tech is responsible for developing and managing Australia’s first and largest water recycling project, the Virginia Pipeline Scheme located in South Australia. The scheme is one of the largest high quality water recycling schemes in the world and is the model for recent advances in water recycling in Australia.

Commissioned in November 1998, the Virginia scheme provides over 10 million m 3 (2.75 mg) per year of Class A recycled water from South Australia Water’s Bolivar treatment plant to more than 240 irrigators, through a 20-year design / build/ operate / finance concession. It recycles approximately 10% of Adelaide’s wastewater and distributes the recycled water to horticultural users on the North Adelaide Plains.

A customized spatial information technology system developed by Earth Tech is used to manage the customer and water assets for Virginia. This system links the pipe network and associated asset information to each customer and enables a range of monitoring and modeling programs that ensures each customer is receiving an appropriate level of service.

Earth Tech is now implementing a web-enabled information management system that allows all users, with appropriate permissions, to view, query and report from anywhere within the secure web environment.
