Drilled Displacement Micropiles

Project

A retaining wall was to be constructed to provide permanent earth support for a new six-story Clinical Administrative Building (CAB) and five story parking garage in Lakeland.

The Problem

Loose sandy soils beneath the proposed wall would not provide adequate support or overturning resistance for a shallow foundation system.

Earth Tech Solution

Earth Tech’s solution consisted of the installation of Drilled Displacement Micropiles (DDM) to provide the required support. Installation depths up to thirty-five feet were required to meet the required thirty-ton axial load and two and one-half ton lateral load design requirements. Full scale load testing was performed to verify design assumptions and pile capacities.
